The workshop focuses on the potentials of an experimental building material derived from its local context. By combining existing disparate industries, an extra-local material can instigate the re-imagining of the future of development and local economies of construction. The workshop is a dialogue between local and traditional building techniques, contemporary architecture, and experts in digital restoration—to intervene, experiment and speculate on the potentials of a local material process, within the climate of mass production, late capitalism and the anthropogenic environment. The effect of a politically designed period of economic growth in cities created an equally intense economic depression in the rural villages.&nbsp; Geographies of the Super-rural is a speculative project that examines the potential futures of rural Spanish villages through the material politics that re-combines, re-valuates and re-recognizes what exists as valuable resources. This project was developed with Xinxin Li and under the guidance of Juan Herreros during an advanced architecture studio at Columbia University GSAPP.
